CCT, Pregnancy and Giving Birth

My daughter and her partner just had a beautiful baby boy almost 3 weeks ago…my first grandson! I was invited to be their doula, which I promptly translated into “energy doula.” Throughout her pregnancy, Carina received massage from others, but also lots of Tree of Life Healing Sessions ( which addresses the sacrum). Specifically the last 6 weeks, she received 1-2 sessions a week. It was interesting working on the sacrum, as baby Julian’s head was just on the other side. I could often feel his “irritation” with me for disturbing his peaceful sleep. But I could also feel when he was irritated and the energy work would calm him down. (I would like to note here that Carina had received the Tree of Life Healing Series many times before getting pregnant, and muscle-tested positive for it as well. If she were a client who had never received that type of work before, I would be very cautious about using the Tree of Life, especially if the pregnant mommy had any history or “warning flag” signs.)

After receiving the TOL series in the last month, Carina often felt better in her overall energy level and in the physical comfort of her sacrum. She was also able to sleep very comfortably right up to the end. Her midwife kept commenting on how the birth was going to be very easy (based on her examination of Carina’s sacrum and pelvis).

Finally, the day arrived! Carina started contractions at 3:30 in the morning and by 7, they called me to get ready to go to the birthing center. Her contractions were quite strong already by that time and we had an hour and a half drive ahead of us. I assured her that the good news was “it won’t be long now,” while telling James the bad news…”it won’t be long now (i.e, drive faster!)”.

At first, the trip in the car was quite uncomfortable. Not being able to move, having to wear a seat belt, and 12 miles of bumpy, dirt road was not conducive to working with the contractions and staying relaxed. I set up energy fields for Carina, Carina and the baby, and all of us. I also set up a group CCT session for Carina and the baby, with the action of giving birth at the point of intention (the action of giving birth WAS the intention). She immediately relaxed and the contractions eased up a bit.

This turned out to be a good thing as she was already 8 centimeters dilated by the time we reached the birthing center at 9 a.m. (You only have to go to 10 cm before giving birth). Normally, in a first time birth, a pregnant mom can take 1-2 hours to dilate 1 cm. Carina had dilated 8 cm in 5 hours or less.

Opting for a water birth, Carina and James got into their jacuzzi tub. Carina used meditative techniques to focus inward and stay relaxed. She also toned to the rhythm of the contractions. I continued to set up energy fields with the midwife and her assistant and with the room itself. I could also monitor the baby quite easily with the fields set up. I was initially concerned that I would be empathically feeling too much to be able to get good information but with our fields set up, this wasn’t the case.

I could often tell when Carina needed to change position or was having thoughts that were detrimental to the progression of labor. I sometimes waited for the midwife to say something (after all she’d done this lots of times already!) but her approach was to let the couple figure it out. Very empowering, but Carina needed some tips at times as well. I was constantly muscle testing about whether to speak or to not say anything. If I were to change anything we did, it would have been to trust my instincts and timing more.

At one point during the contractions, I got the information that she needed one more Tree of Life Session. I was a bit startled and absolutely couldn’t remember the order of the 10 points. I had to leave it to my energy self to sort that part out as I did a distance session on her. It seemed to help her sacrum adjust during that last part of dilating.

By 11:30 a.m. Carina was ready to start bearing down. With two C-sections of my own, I didn’t have any reference points of this part. Carina hit a point of fear during this phase which surprised me as she had been absolutely fearless up to this point. The midwife became very active, showing her how to move her energy down and out instead of, up and out through her vocal cords. Fear coming up during the transitional time is common and is one of the signs of moving out of contractions and into the action of moving the baby out. I was intrigued by the source of the energy of the fear. Is it because the energy moves out of the second chakra and into the first chakra (where the primary emotion of fear resides)? Is it because it’s the moment before the creative form moves from an interiority, which is a very protected state, to the exterior, separate from one’s self?

In the Fruit of Life Soul Chart there is a point when the interior energies of creation switch to an exterior expression. Often energy gets hung up on this point. In psychic hindsight, if I were to do something different as the energy doula for my daughter, I would have done a Fruit of Life chart for the progression of the pregnancy and the birth. Carina had listened several times to my podcast meditation on The Four Stages of Growth, which releases out any potential birthing problems lingering from this lifetime or others. That meditation also helped Julian release any birthing issues he might be caring from his dad or from past lifetimes. This helped tremendously during the more challenging parts of the birth, but didn’t address the switch from interior to exterior.

Once Carina got the hang of synchronizing her breath with bearing down, things really started moving. At noon exactly, baby Julian was born into his father’s hands. Way to go everyone! Although the bearing down phase seemed to take forever to me, it was a mere 30 minutes. The midwife told us later, that the average time for bearing down for a first time birth is 2 hours. She also mentioned that she had learned some things from Carina about giving birth. She did make it a very graceful dance of wonder and vibration. That Carina is completely her own person and not an extension of me, showed up when she didn’t swear once throughout the whole process!

The time in the birthing center after the birth was spent making Carina and the baby comfortable (checking on overall health) and ensuring a good bonding between Carina and Julian for optimal breastfeeding. It was fantastic watching Julian respond instantly to his father’s voice. James later shared with me how often he would interact and play with the baby while Carina was sleeping. When it came time to breastfeed, I set up Carina’s and Julian’s energy fields again (along with Carina, James and the baby) and then did a CCT group session so that breastfeeding was at the point of intention. There was a discernible shift in connection between mother and son in the activity of breastfeeding when I did this.

Five hours after Julian was born we all left the birthing center and went to a nearby hotel. I set up more fields and did clearing in the hotel room. It was clear I wasn’t needed after that, so I went home and left them to settle in to their first night. Carina and James were amazing in their confidence with the baby, right from the start.

Since Julian’s birth, I’ve used CCT when he gets fussy and can’t sleep. Since he received so much of it in utero, he recognizes CCT and immediately calms down. Both for Julian as well as Carina, the rate of healing was extremely accelerated. Julian’s umbilical cord fell off only 3 days after birth! And Carina healed fairly quickly as well, able to walk normally by the 3rd day. Just recently, she is feeling the need for another Tree of Life session to help her sacrum, spine and tail bone return to a prepregnancy level.

All three seem to be settling into the creation of their new family with grace, humor and love.

One final note as I think back on this whole amazing journey. I thought at the time that the water birth was incredible for creating an experience where the father was just as much a part of the birthing as Carina and Julian. But looking at it now, the water only played a small part in creating that. It was the CCT energy field that was connecting and protecting them, that allowed the three of them to participate in one of the healthiest births I’ve ever seen. As I watched Julian settle in with his mom and dad his first night on planet Earth, outside of the utero, I thought, “Now, there’s a child that won’t need therapy to heal from birth trauma!”

Once again, I’m deeply grateful for the gift of CCT.
